Lee DaynesBiographyLee was born and raised in Sydney and received lots of encouragement from her creative parents to paint draw and make things. Her adult live has been spent in a variety of beautiful and inspiring environments – The snowy Mountains, the Blue Mountains and now the NSW South Coast, where she and framer husband Paul have operated Dulkara Wildlife Gallery since 1996. Subject, style and mediaLee is primarily a painter of Australian animals and birds. She paints in watercolour in a unique style born of many years of experimenting. Her extremely detailed paintings reflect the time she spends observing animals interacting in their natural habitats, in an effort to capture the true spirit and personality of each creature she paints. Most paintings also include a background of carefully rendered native flora. In the last few years Lee has worked in other media including pastels, acrylics and collage. Specialty areaLee has painted a wide variety of Australian flora and fauna but she has gained special recognition for her frogs. As a licenced Amphibian keeper and rescuer, she has learned a lot about them and all her frog paintings are painted directly from her green residents. She has also received high praise for her Sugar and Squirrel Gliders, from experts in the field. Experience and AwardsIn addition to a lifetime of drawing and painting for pleasure Lee has been selling her work for 30 years now, specialising for over 25 years in watercolour wildlife painting. In the ‘80s she produced display items for National Parks and Wildlife Service, as well as botanical drawings for one of their publications. Lee has exhibited in many galleries over the years, taken part in many joint and group exhibitions and held 4 solo exhibitions in Sydney and the Blue Mountains. Also, since 2000 she has held an annual exhibition of her new work at her Bawley Point gallery. She joined WABA in 2000 and received a Highly Commended Wildlife Art Award and the People’s Choice award. In 2002 she won the Wildlife Art Award and in 2003, the Botanical Art Award.
