Delma WhiteBiographyDelma was raised in a small country town in the south west of Western Australia. Here she developed her love for nature, in particular, the unique orchids of Western Australia. She began her love for art portraying the busy lives associated with the shearing sheds where she grew up. From there she progressed to displaying luscious fruits in Still Life. Delma loves to paint the beauty of wildflowers, from the Sturt Pea to the small delicate rabbit orchids. Though she currently resides in Perth, she spends a lot of time travelling to many country areas. These travels are always interrupted by her search to find some rare native flower. She believes that these flowers, which are only found in WA, are the most beautiful in the world. It is her aim to share these wonders with the rest of the world. Subject, Style, MediaDelma is a self-taught artist and works in pastel, graphite and oils. Her pastels depict the busy life inside the shearing sheds of the South West. Her native wildflower paintings are executed in oils on canvas. She enjoys portraying the contrasts of delicate flowers situated in their natural environment with all its rough textures. Often insects are included hidden on a petal or among the leaf litter. Delma’s aim is for her bold paintings to be accepted alongside the more traditional botanic watercolour studies. Experience, AwardsDelma’s pastels of rural life are very popular and they are usually sold on completion. She has exhibited her graphite drawings at The Kingfisher Gallery, which specializes in nature. Her paintings have received awards from the many exhibitions throughout the state.
