Peta Boyce

Biography

Peta’s childhood was spent in Papua New Guinea where she developed a passion for wildlife and art. She currently lives on a small acreage in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland where she shares her extensively planted native garden with many of the birds she loves to paint. Peta has exhibited in many combined exhibitions and her work is in private collections both in Australia and Overseas.

Subject, style and media

Peta is a self-taught artist and works mainly in gouache. Primarily painting birds, after two trips to Africa (Namibia and Tanzania), Peta has extended her portfolio to include some of Africa’s mammals.

Experience, awards and teaching

Painting professionally since 1995, Peta has won a number of awards including:

  • Best Bird Painting – Qld Wildlife Artists 2005 Exhibition
  • Best Watercolour/Gouache – Qld Wildlife Artists 2005 Exhibition
  • Peoples Choice – Maleny Art Show 2005
  • Best Wildlife – Royal Queensland Show 2006
  • Best Animal Subject – Kenilworth Art Festival 2007
  • Best In Show - Queensland Wildlife Artists International Exhibition 2007
  • In 2000 Peta co-authored and illustrated the book – Wild About You “Friends With Feathers” – with fellow wildlife artist Lyn Ellison. The book is a collection of short stories about injured and orphaned birds that the artists had cared for as Wildlife Foster Carers. Limited Edition Giclee Prints are available of some of Peta’s work as well as a series of small Open Edition Prints.
