Nicki HallBiographyNicki was born in Narooma on the Far South Coast of New South Wales. She was always fascinated by both animals and drawing and since very young desired to be an artist. School books and law books alike are littered in pencil 'doodles' of horses, cats & dogs. During her schooling Nicki undertook all available art classes and achieved top percentile ratings in Three Unit Art in the Higher School Certificate with porcelain sculptures. Four private oil painting lessons at thirteen were all she needed to inspire her to learn to paint. After moving around the state in various country regions throughout her school life she joined the NSW Police and returned to the coast to live. She now resides on the outskirts of Wolumla near Merimbula and lives in a self constructed mud brick home with her family of animals. An opportunity for a change of career presented itself in 1994 and resulted in Nicki becoming the proprietor of a small sign shop in Bega. Designpost has been an outlet through which Nicki has been able to develop substantial graphic design skills and incorporate art into her working life. In 2000 Nicki decided to dedicate some serious time to fine art. Being self employed has enabled her to attend workshops at Charles Sturt University and other venues and to exhibit with her friends wherever possible. She has been successful with sales from various galleries as well as the exhibitions in which she has participated. Subject, style and mediaNicki prefers to paint animals and landscapes in the mediums of pastels, acrylics, watercolours and oils in traditional and contemporary styles. Specialty areaAny subject is fair game. Experience, awards and teachingNicki teaches beginners classes in Watercolours, Oils, Pastels and Acrylics in Bega on a weekly basis during school terms. She finds that she learns as much as the students in these sessions because she’s always being pushed out of her comfort zone.
